Our story began in 1957 when L.C. Rathi first pioneered a method to extract papain, an enzyme complex derived from the papaya fruit. A year later, he opened his first enzyme manufacturing plant.
L.C. Rathi’s son, Vic Rathi, carried on his father’s entrepreneurial spirit by founding Specialty Enzymes & Probiotics in 1985. As one of the world’s foremost enzymologists, Mr. Rathi has overseen the development of more than 900 custom enzyme and probiotic solutions in the 40 years of his professional career. He is now known by many in the nutraceutical industry as the “godfather of enzymes.” Today, his daughters have joined the business to continue their family’s legacy.
